Sponsored by the Chicago Center for Jewish Genetic Disorders, the Physicians and Surgeons Division of the Jewish United Fund, and Rush North Shore Hospital this year’s conference is designed to give physicians a practical approach to learning about the medical implications of genetic testing. It is sponsored for Continuing Medical Education Credit by Rush University Medical Center.
The conference will focus on identifying the most common mendelian disorders found in children and adults of Ashkenazi descent, identifying the most common adult onset (predispositional) disorders found in individuals of Ashkenazi descent, describing the guidelines for testing children under age 18, as well as preconception/prenatal couples, and describing the role that genetic counseling plays in the genetic testing process. All conference attendees will be given a "Practical Guide" (found here) at the conclusion of the event, which will contain information on the mendelian and predispositional disorders most commonly found within the Ashkenazi community, genetic counseling and testing resources, and highlights from the faculty presentations.
