Each year, the Chicago Center for Jewish Genetic Disorders creates a postcard to remind mothers, grandmothers, aunts and daughters of one more way they can help their families stay happy and healthy. This Mother’s Day, we honor our mothers by sharing their stories.

How has your mother impacted your health?

To share your story, e-mail jewishgeneticsctr@juf.org. Quotes may be posted anonymously. Check back often to read new quotes throughout 2008.

“You are responsible for your own health.” Julie

“My grandmother always said that I was still a growing girl. Girls keep growing until age 18, she would say, and then when I approached 18, she informed me that girls keep growing until age 20, and then after that she announced that girls keep growing until 25 or even 28. When she died two years ago at age 91, I was 5 foot 4 inches tall, the exact same height as I currently am – and the same height I have been since I was 13. Perhaps it was just that she was shrinking?” Rachel
